The Making of FR: Check-In 3 (Final)

As the foundation is now laid (concealed, noisy work to the "shell"), we can now proceed to the furnishing and carpentry work. A first coat of paint is also applied at this stage.

This is when the design start to materialise from the computer screens and onto real life.

Ceiling Work

No items found.

Ceiling is the first step of concealing electrical works on the top. Then we move to patching up electrical works on the wall and painting them as well.

Next up, flooring!

Flooring

No items found.

Usage of Vinyl flooring enables the existing tile flooring to be in original condition. Some may even treat this new flooring as a layer of protection of the shiny and "perceptively" more expensive tiles.

New glass door at the Kitchen is also brought in upon completion of the new flooring.

Bathroom Tilling

No items found.

Bathroomt tiles are also laid simultaneously once plumbing works are done.

This bathroom re-layout was a bit tricky as, if you can remember, we swapped the shower and basins area. So there needed to be a semi concealed drain to bring shower water towards the outlet (floor trap) at its original location which is unfortunately near the basin and vanity.

Carpentry work: Living/ Dining

No items found.

Notable carpentry work would be the new "exterior" bedroom wall, moving it towards the outside of the 2 new wardrobes. This helps to keep the Living/ Dining space a nice long rectangle.

I don't know about you, but for me, simple geometric layout helps make the space looks more spacious.

Kitchen

No items found.

Planning of this Kitchen had to be very specific and accurate due to the lack of space. So every appliance selected had to firstly fit the usage of home owner while satisfying the space contraint.

Kitchen top is finished with a Viscount White granite, alongside matching backsplash and Island top outside. The granite top on the Island is also complete with a more classical waterfall effect, having them on both ends of the Island wall.

Bedroom

No items found.

Built-in bed platform, which is also a loose piece, is matched with a low headboard and floating night stand.

This bed provides additional drawer storage on both sides.

Lounge

No items found.

Last but no least, we wouldn't want Guests to feel not welcomed. So we slotted in 2 mobile pedestals which acts as stools for seating and doubles up as coffee tables when they're not there.

This versatility helps keep the compact lounge area clutter free, which is the prority as it is concerning the lifestyle of the home owner.

Hopefully there are some good examples of solutions that you may need for the renovation of your own space. While pretty instagramable photos are what catches everyone's attention, I do always try to find out of there are any stories behind each element in a home.

Should be posting completed photos of this by next week. Stay tuned, (a little while more if you've reached this post to end the series)!

Till then,

Nick
