5 design elements that may be the future of modern living

Since we are approaching the turn of the year, it's time to envision the future we want for ourselves and our home. Perhaps it is time to re-define the meaning of future living. Not just for the sake of it, but just to help us get out of the shadow of our parents and how they used or are still currently living.

This is a good exercise to help us reimagine things and put in perspective the things we really want in our home. Our lifestyles EW definitely different from our predecessors, aptly in keeping with how the world has changed.

1. Sleeker, Cleaner TV Console

The area used to be the gadget central for the house where you will have all the elctronic or charging provision all in one area, alongside all the storage space you need since the console itself does occupy a large section of the Living area wall.

However, home owners these days started to assign an area or room for items that are not in daily need to keep the TV area as clean dan minimal as possible. Sometimes it is because they don't want to look of a large cabinet as they spend quality downtime at home, sometimes they just don't own as many gadgets as we thought we're supposed to have.

2. Open Kitchen

It is true that, very often, an open kitchen is very desirable for more compact spaces but even bigger spaces is picking up this trend.

It could be younger generation are spending less time in the Kitchen, while it could also be the convenient of not cleaning Kitchen doors, which very often have glass panels.

3. Bigger "Dry" Kitchen

It may be contradictory to what I was saying in the point above, but here, I'm referring to an increase in the Kitchen counter space that may not be used for washing or cooking (in the traditional sense where a stove/ hob is involved). There are areas to have your Kitchen appliance on; coffee machine, air fryer, steamer, thermomix, you name it.

It kind of makes sense as technology develops and more gadgets are available for our convenience and cooking habit. Some of these appliance were nit even invented in our parents' time.

4. Bathrooms as a Feature

Bathrooms are not just places to wash up, and the getting washed. Home owners now wants more comfort and peace in a space that you visit the first thing in the morning and last thing at night.

As we are all more well travelled, inspiration is also taking from many hotels, adopting other country's bathroom culture along the way.

5. Open Study/ Home Office

No items found.

It's sometimes good to have a private enclosed study/ workspace in a home, but more home owners are requesting for a common workspace in a common area of the home. They like the idea that they can still be with their family, even with they have to check-in at work really quickly.

Some of these spaces are also viewed as multi-purpose rather than just for the working parent. It could also be the go-to Dining space for many home owners who may have to work (or Netflix) during meal time.

A home is a private space and planning for someone's home is a very sacred experience, because we are being in let into someone else's lifestyle, preferences and tendencies. Therefore, we try not to pre-judge what sometime likes, or if a conventional design works for them.

As we have learned, the term "bring practical' is a loose and easily stretched term. Different strokes for different folks.
